Guus Hiddink

Netherlands manager Guus Hiddink has declined to comment on any rumours of him being sacked before the Oranje’s next match in March. The Dutch hammered Latvia 6-0 in the Group A qualifier at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday.

The 68-year-old former Chelsea boss had promised to leave the job if his team failed to win against the Latvians. However, his team produced a terrific performance on the night and registered their first win after 2 successive losses.

Arjen Robben and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a brace apiece while Robin Van Persie and Jeffrey Bruma scored one goal each.

I was thinking about the match: Hiddink

Hiddink, who had earlier coached the Dutch during the European Championships in 1996, said that his focus was more on the match and less on his departure.

“I was concentrating on the match and we've won it ”. The former South Korea boss told NOS.

He said it was very good performance by his boys and he didn’t wish to comment on the rumours about his sacking.

"That's the most important thing right now. I won't react to the question on whether I'll still be Netherlands coach in March 2015. I just don't feel like answering the question”. he said.

"We showed that we could deliver a great performance and that's the most important thing right now. I had my doubts about the defence but in attack we were great. I knew that already." Hiddink added.

He was also pleased with the performance of Van Persie and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who played up front in the game.

We did a good job and showed that Van Persie and Huntelaar can play together. It's tough to train a system when you have the players for just a few days." he said.
