Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia has agreed on a contract extension with Hamburg, the Bundesliga football club confirmed in an official statement on Monday.

The 49-year-old coach, whose contract would have expired in June 2016, extended his contract for another year until June 2017. The same applies to Labbadia's assistants Eddy Soezer and Bernhard Trares, reports Xinhua.

"We have always said that it is only a matter of time until we extend our contracts. It will be my pleasure to reach the sportive goals with Hamburg," Labbadia told the club's official homepage.

The former German international coached a number of Bundesliga clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart. It is, however, Labbadia's second spell at Hamburg as he already stood on the sidelines for the club from 2009 until 2010.

"We are delighted that we were able to extend the contract with Bruno and his coaching staff. Bruno lives for the club," Hamburg's sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer said.

Hamburg are preparing for the upcoming second half of the season in Belek, Turkey. Tenth-placed Hamburg face front-runners Bayern Munich in the 18th round in Bundesliga on January 22.
