Houston, July 19 (IANS): Assistant coach Hutson Charles has credited new head coach Stephen Hart and director of football Leo Beenhakker for improving the fortunes of Trinidad and Tobago which has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Charles, who led the team from the opening Gold Cup qualifier against French Guiana, said he was impressed by the level of understanding among members of the coaching staff, reports CMC.

“I think they’ve brought experience. Watching how Stephen Hart works and how Beenhakker interacted, especially during the sessions and the advice he’s been giving, I think it’s been a tremendous help to the team,” said Charles, a former T and T midfielder.

“There is a lot to be learnt from this.”

The ‘Soca Warriors’ defeated Honduras 2-0 to secure their place after bouncing back to draw with El Salvador in their opening fixture.

They take on Mexico in the quarterfinal in Atlanta Saturday.

“It will take time to get more consistency but hopefully we can keep it up,” said Charles.

“The next match against Mexico will be another big test for us but we’re really looking forward to this challenge.”
