Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez celebrates after scoring against Besiktas

Arsenal’s new summer signing Alexis Sanchez scored to help the club beat Besiktas 1-0 at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

The result means that the Gunners have qualified for the Champions League for the 17th season in a row (bested only by Real Madrid who are currently on 18).

In a tense game filled with bookings and a sending off, Arsenal kept their nerve to qualify with Besiktas needing only one away goal to go through. With Olivier Giroud out until Jauary, Sanchez started up front and scored at the stroke of half-time.

Mathieu Debuchy was sent off for a harsh second yellow card which reduced the North London club to 10 men in the second half but they managed to hold on for the win and qualification for the group stage draw that will be held on Thursday.
