Highlights: Cruz Azul 0-4 Real Madrid; Record 50th win of 2014 sees Galacticos through to Club World Cup Final

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid is congratulated by his team-mates after scoring his side's third goal

Real Madrid sailed into the Club World Cup final by beating Mexican side Cruz Azul 4-0. Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Isco scored on the night while goalkeeper Iker Casillas was called upon to save a Gerardo Torrado penalty when the score was 2-0.

Cruz Azul, a club with a fraction of the resources at the disposal of the Galacticos, made the most of the occasion and made a contest out of the match, until Bale headed in Real’s third goal five minutes into the second half.

Real played some exhibition football following the third goal, and received fanatical backing from the Marrakesh crowd. The stars responded to the adulation received from the crowd and attempted some audacious moves – including an attempted rabona on the half-volley by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Galacticos meet San Lorenzo or Auckland City, who face each other on Wednesday, in Saturday’s final.

The win was the Spanish club’s 50th of the calendar year 2014, the latest record Carlo Ancelotti’s rampaging unit have managed to topple this year. The previously held record was that of Barcelona’s 49 wins in 2012.
