Real Madrid beat Villarreal 2-0 at El Madrigal stadium on Saturday evening, but the match could easily have turned against them as Villarreal spurned a number of chances to score.

Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the first half to help Los Blancos win their third straight game in La Liga.

This was also Ronaldo’s 10th league goal of the season, his 13th in all competitions. Meanwhile, Modric scored his seventh goal for Madrid, all of which have come from outside the box.

Villarreal 0-1 Real Madrid: Modric (33’)

Modric scored with a sublime strike from outside the box after receiving the ball in the middle. As Ronaldo drew a defender away with a lateral run, the Croatian midfielder let fly a strike into the left corner that left the goalkeeper stranded.

Ronaldo then scored from a Real Madrid counter with Karim Benzema supplying the final pass. The French striker controlled a long ball, dragged it back to lose a defender and then found Ronaldo near the penalty spot, who calmly slotted it home.
