Hoffenheim head coach Huub Stevens tendered his resignation with immediate effect on Wednesday to leave the German football club due to health reasons.

The Dutch coach has surprisingly taken this decision just three days before his side's Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen, reports Xinhua.

It is expected that Hoffenheim will announce further details about the new coach who, according to German news agency DPA, will be Stevens's assistant Alfred Schreuder.

After his arrival in late October, Stevens, 62, failed to lead Hoffenheim to a higher position and they remain in the relegation zone.

Hoffenheim are currently 17th in the Bundesliga standings with 14 points.
