Hugo Sanchez: Real Madrid could sign Lionel Messi if Barcelona are not careful

Will Barcelona’s Lionel Messi make the switch to Real Madrid?

Ex-Real Madrid striker Hugo Sanchez has claimed that Barcelona could lose their star player Lionel Messi to Real Madrid if he is not looked after at the Catalan club.

Sanchez, who played for Los Blancos for seven seasons between 1985 and 1992, feels that Messi is not happy with his current contract which expires in 2018. There is a buyout clause in the contract allowing a club to sign him for €200 million (£164.7m).

He told BeIn Sports: “Messi is not feeling valued highly enough by Barcelona with his contract and they must be careful,”

“If Barca are careless, I can see Real Madrid signing him.”

It is not common to see players move between the two rival clubs. The last high profile player to make the move was Portuguese star Luis Figo who became a hated figure in Barcelona.
