I-League clubs Bengaluru FC and Pune FC to be a part of the ISL

Bengaluru FC and Pune FC will be part of the ISL

Despite playing a key role in opposing the Indian Super League last year, I-League clubs Bengaluru FC and Pune FC have decided to be a part of the new cash-rich league.

Pune FC have joined hands with Salman Khan and Wadhawan Group to run the ISL’s Pune franchise with two key club officials including head of operations Chirag Tanna assisting in the domestic players draft.

Bengaluru FC are tying up with Bengaluru franchise owners Sun Group. JSW CEO Mustafa Ghouse and Bengaluru FC consultant Mandar Tamhane were present at the domestic draft alongside the Sun Group officials to guide them in the selection of the players.

“Bengaluru FC will tie up with Sun Group but this time their players won’t be a part of the ISL as the domestic players pool was already completed. However Bengaluru FC players will be eligible to play in the ISL next season so if Sunil Chhetri and Robin Singh remain at the club, they will be seen in action next year,” senior AIFF official stated.

With Bengaluru and Pune joining the ISL bandwagon, only two I-League clubs – Salgaocar and Sporting Clube – remain publicly against the IMG-Reliance event.
