I-League: Salgaocar get their one point back

sal

Sportskeeda revealed last week that Salgaocar will get back the one point that they earned against Pune FC earlier in the season but was deducted as the Goan club fielded two unregistered players. The AIFF have now officially confirmed that the point has been added back to Salgaocar’s tally while Pune FC suffers a two-point deduction.

Earlier Salgaocar were found guilty of fielding the unregistered duo of Matthew Foschini and Fulganco Cardozo against Bengaluru FC and Pune FC on November 22 and 26 respectively.

Salgaocar lost to Bengaluru 2-1 and drew 1-1 with Pune FC but Bengaluru and Pune were later awarded 3-0 victories due to Salgaocar’s error.

It was claimed that the two players did not go through the necessary formalities of registration before being fielded, and thus were ineligible to play.

However Salgaocar appealed the decision and on Thursday the AIFF appeals committee came to the conclusion that those two players were indeed eligible to play, and thus the one point deducted from Salgaocar has been given back. However Salgaocar have been levied a fine of Rs. 50,000 for an administrative lapse.

The original results of those two matches would now be considered again which means that even the goal difference of newly-crowned champions Bengaluru FC will decrease by two. Salgaocar remain third but close the gap with second-placed East Bengal to one point while seventh-placed Pune can no longer finish in the top five now due to the two points deduction.
