Inter Milan News: Carlos Tevez was never an option, reveals Branca

After a summer of speculation has come to an end, Inter Milan have revealed that they were never in the market for Carlos Tevez, Manchester City‘s want-away striker, even though media reports linked the Serie A giants heavily with the Argentine. Tevez declared in July that he wanted to leave City due to his unhappiness at being away from his family and his hatred of all things English, thus creating a furore at Manchester City. He was thus linked with big money moves out of England. Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Corinthians were the clubs reportedly in the market for Tevez.

When the big money Samuel Eto’o deal went through for Inter, speculations turned rife that Tevez would be lined up as the replacement for the departing Cameroonian. Alas, the move never materialised. At the end of a mad summer transfer window, Tevez is still a City player and Diego Forlan has been brought in Samuel Eto’o’s replacement for 5 million Euros. Shedding light on what was an intense summer of speculation, Inter Sporting Director Marco Branca revealed Tevez was never in the club’s sights since he was valued at a very high price by City.

“Tevez has never been a possible purchase. City always valued him at €45million (£40m).”

This falls perfectly in place with Inter’s logic in selling Eto’o, since the big money that came in from the transfer and the subsequent reduction of the wage bracket on the club payroll were aimed at cutting losses before the Financial Fair Play rules came into play. Going for Tevez, whose high valuation City were very rigid on, would never have been a good option.
