Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku carried his good Everton form as he bagged a hat-trick during Belgium’s 5-1 friendly win over neighbours Luxembourg at the Fenix stadium in Genk. The other two goals were scored by Tottenham midfielder Nacer Chadli and VfL Wolfsburg forwardKevin De Bruyne.
Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj made his much anticipated international debut as he came on as a substitute at half-time. Speaking to reporters after the match, the 19-year-old said, “It's my job to play one touch, to dribble, to entertain the crowd a bit. I wasn't under much pressure. I'm used to playing in front of 80,000 at Manchester United. I am happy with my debut.”
On the other hand, Australia ended their match against South Africa in a stalemate at Sydney's Olympic Stadium after captain Tim Cahill came up with an equalizer in the 14th minute after 21-year-old Ayanda Patosi scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute.
Australia have been drafted in Group B for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and play Chile in their game opener on June 13 ahead of their matches against Netherlands and Spain.
''It's three weeks until the first game at the World Cup," Cahill told reporters after the match. "It's the first time a lot of us have actually played competitively together. I thought we were very brave and we made some mistakes here and there. But overall we've got to be ready to play the bigger teams.''
