Interview: Subrata Pal living his dream with Danish side FC Vestsjælland

Indian international Subrata Pal has left Indian shores to join Danish Superliga side FC Vestsjælland on loan for the remainder of the 2013/14 season. It is a great opportunity for Subrata and I spoke to him about what it means to him, what he wants to achieve and more.

First of all congratulations on finally going on your five month stint with FC Vestsjælland! It is fulfilling a lifelong footballers dream for you?

Thank you very much. It’s been a lifelong dream for me to play at the highest level possible. Getting a loan contract with FCV is not a dream but a chance to fulfil my dreams. I will try to give my best to be the best keeper possible and take every opportunity given to me.

What are your expectations of the upcoming six months with FC Vestsjælland?

Like any other goalkeeper I will probably have to wait for my chance. There are three keepers in the First Team squad including myself so there is no guarantee that I will play regularly. But I don’t think there is any keeper from Asia who has gone to Europe and walked in as a first choice keeper. I might initially get a chance in reserve team matches and then from there on I will try my best to prove myself.

For you is it more about the learning or making it in Europe?

Both. I will definitely try to learn as much as possible, and I have learnt from training with the national team in Spain, Portugal and with my stints on trial in Germany and Canada. In every possible exposure we learn something new and whatever be the age we have to keep learning ad maturing.

About making it in Europe only time will tell. I have been given the opportunity and now it’s up to me to do my best and see what Europe has to offer me!

During the trials you had Gouramangi with you. Now you will be on your own, away from family and friends. Worried about that?

Not really. I have lived away from my family before. I have gone to Germany and Canada on trial also. My coach and family keep encouraging me and advising me wherever.

However, Gouramangi was great help and fun during the first stint here so I will miss that. This is only a short contract and I am expected to stay here just five months so before I know it, it will be over, and I will be back home.

Anything you want to say to your fans?

Thanks for the continuous support despite the ups and downs. Keep supporting me and where possible I will post links of the matches being shown live and updates from my stint in Denmark for all of you to be up to date!

All the best Subrata in Denmark!
