Robin Singh plays down loss to Chennaiyin, says teams tend to have a bad day in such a tourney

Robin talks to Chennaiyin owner and Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni after the loss

Post every game here at Delhi’s Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, one of Delhi Dynamos’ marquee signings this season, Robin Singh walks down to the VIP area, politely asks the security guard to let him in and then goes on to hug his mother.

Mrs. Singh who is now a regular feature at the franchisee’s home games has in fact been labelled by onlookers as the lucky charm for the Roberto Carlos based outfit. After all her son, who didn't quite do justice to his talent before the onset of the league this year seems a reformed performer altogether. From scoring within minutes of making his ISL debut to scoring a last minute equaliser against Mumbai City FC here and then scoring a brilliant right footer to fetch India’s first win in their World Cup Qualifying campaign against Guam, the Tata Football Academy prodigy is finally coming of age.

Surprisingly thus last night when the franchisee and Robin were expected to cruise past lowly Chennaiyin and seal the coveted play off spot, they came up a cropper. Disappointing to say the least, the Dynamos failed to score for only the third time this season and ended up going down 0-4. Talking about the no-show to the ISL media team, he said, We worked hard but unfortunately lost. But we take this on our chin, learn from our mistakes and focus on our game that’s coming in three days. We need to be there in the semi-finals.”

About the lack of cohesion that the team exhibited upfront and his own failure to net a goal, he added, “Nothing as such went wrong. It’s one of those days when the keeper’s in the right place at the right time. We shot but right at the keeper.”

Prior to this game, Delhi had been solid in defence, conceding just 9 goals in total; that statistic however took a beating yesterday. Claiming it was just a one off, Robin asserted, “Every defence has their bad days, we had ours tonight. But that won’t stop us from believing in ourselves and move forward.

Also, Stiven Mendoza had a good game, I congratulate him on that. Overall too, they were pretty good.”

Luckily for him, though, Delhi still has a couple of league games to go at its fortress. For all we know, playing under the watchful eyes of his mother might again work wonders!
