Iraq witnessed a desolate occurrence on Friday as a suicide bomber blew himself up at a football field which killed at least 29 people and wounded another 60. The incident happened during an ongoing football match in Iskandariyah, which is a small city 50 kilometres to the south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

An anonymous medical officer- who was not authorised to talk to the press- has confirmed the death toll.

According to a monitoring organisation named SITE Intelligence Group, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for the onslaught by virtue of a statement posted online.

This is not the first time an incident like this has occurred in the West Asian country, as ISIS has been practising a series of suicide bombings in and around the capital city of Baghdad which have claimed innumerable innocent lives until now.

Here is a video that has been circulating in Twitter which claims to exhibit moments before the suicide bombing:

Earlier last week, the Belgian capital of Brussels was also bombed by the IS militants which claimed the lives of 31 people and left almost 300 of them injured. The international friendly match between Belgium and Portugal has been postponed as an aftermath of the terror-struck by the Islamic terrorist group.

Another similar kind of an incident occurred in France last November when an ISIS suicide bomber was detonated outside the Stade de France stadium during an on-going friendly match between France and Germany. Although none of the spectators were harmed thanks to an alert security guard, the entire incident could have taken an ugly turn otherwise.
