Mumbai City FC, who sit pretty in second position in the league with 8 points in 5 games, will host FC Goa on Friday. The visitors currently sit at the bottom of the table, with just one draw to their name in four matches.

Mumbai City FC coach Alexandre Guimaraes spoke to the media ahead of the match and revealed more about Anwar Ali and Leo Costa’s injuries. “Well, they are now with our medical team. They went to do some exams. We are waiting for them and the doctor to come back and give me a report before our afternoon practice. Then we will see if they are able to play or not.”

Mumbai City FC’s star man Diego Forlan was sidelined with an injury but the coach shared some positive news about his return, “Diego Forlan will play tomorrow.”

Guimaraes praises Chhetri’s performance in the AFC Cup

Sunil Chhetri was the star for Bengaluru FC last night in the AFC Cup, scoring two wonderful goals and helping his side progress to the finals. The Mumbai City FC coach heaped praise on India’s ace striker and hopes he will return to Mumbai with some positive energy.

“He did fantastic, right? He scored some superb goals. First thing I did after the game was congratulate him and the other guys. Like I said before, this is good for Indian football. They are competing at the international football,” the coach stated.

“Looking from that perspective I am very happy with what Bengaluru FC have achieved. During our planning, there was the possibility that we would miss these players. We have to handle it like we’ve handled it till now. The team has shown that we have the back up to wait for them. I hope they do well and come back as champions. The energy will be much better for us then,” he explained.

We played well against Delhi, says Guimaraes

Talking about how his side let Delhi back into the match in their last outing, conceding 3 goals in the entertaining 3-3 draw, the Mumbai City FC coach felt that his side didn’t do much wrong and played some good football.

“We played a very good match. I think this is the kind of games that is good for the health of the Indian Super League. I cannot say anything about defensive game because everybody saw what happened and why we ended up conceding those goals,” he said.

“This is not an error that I can go and tell my players because it is something that happened that day and I hope that it won’t happen again,” the coach added.

The coach spoke about FC Goa, their opponents on Friday, and said that his side cannot take the pedal off the gas despite Goa’s poor start to the competition

“I think that they didn’t deserve the results that they had till now. They’ve played some courageous football. They play brave, attacking football. This is what I am expecting tomorrow. This is the way that they qualified in the first season and entered the final in the second season”, he said.

“We know that when the opponent comes to play a game with a necessity to win, it is more dangerous for us. So we have to be very cautious and aware about this”, he added.
