ISL: FC Goa's Romeo Fernandes linked to Brazilian club

FC Goa's predator on the right flank Romeo Fernandes has been linked to Brazilian Club Atletico Paranaense. The sturdy winger has attracted Brazilian suitors, who are reportedly willing to make him a part of their starting XI. This deal could be concluded as soon as January 2015, and if it goes through then Fernandes would become the first Indian player to ply his trade for a Brazilian club.

Fernandes has easily been a standout performer in the Indian Super League. The pacey winger, who started his professional career with Dempo, where he impressed fans and coaches alike, has captivated the Super League audience with his skill set, tricks and amazing bursts of speed.

For Dempo, Fernandes featured in crunch games and dished out stellar performances. He was also included in the India U-23 team, and scored two goals in two appearances. Although he failed to bag more appearances, his stints with the national team were evidence of the raw talent he possessed.

Polished and nurtured by Zico, Fernandes has now become arguably the best Indian player in the Indian Super League.

The 22-year-old is often deployed on the right wing and is partnered by another Dempo man, Debabrata Roy. Fernandes has been awarded the Man-of-the-Match award in the ISL thrice. His three goals, two assists and a mammoth 11 shots on goal are evidence of his prolific striking capabilities.

Often pulling defenders out of position while vacating space for Debabrata to capitalize on FC Goa's right wing pairing, Fernandes has proved to be the team's strongest link. The springy winger's ability to do the extraordinary out of absolute nothing, is perhaps the greatest weapon which he possesses in his arsenal.

Fernandes has often been Goa's stalwart. Taking on defenders whilst beating them for speed has perhaps been his strongest attribute. The Indian Super League has unearthed an array of young Indian talent, and Romeo Fernandes is leading that contingent.
