Italian World Cup winner Marco Materazzi has joined the Chennai franchise as player-manager, according to Reuters.
The Chennai franchise has a tie-up with Italian giants Inter Milan and thus have signed up club legend Materazzi.
The domestic players of the Chennai franchise and some of the foreigners will be assembling in Bangalore on Sunday with training starting from Monday as the playing surface of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai will undergo refurbishment.
According to the Reuters report, Materazzi is expected to reach Bangalore on Thursday.
However a report from Italy suggests that the 41-year-old defender, who retired in 2011, still hasn’t officially signed but is close to doing so.
“Yes, it's 90 per cent done. I am in Madrid to settle the final details,” Materazzi was quoted saying by Calciomercato.com.
