Pauleta talks about ISL on PSG Academy launch in New Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) Former Portuguese striker Pedro Miguel Pauleta Wednesday said he was not approached to play in the cash-rich inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) but hoped the tournament will be successful in developing Indian football.

"I have no plans of returning to competitive football and was not approached to play in ISL. The tournament is a great opportunity for Indian footballers to develop themselves by playing alongside some of the legends of the game," said Pauleta on the sidelines of inauguration of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) academy here.

"The advent of ISL will inspire the younger generations to take up the sport. Even countries like the United States were not doing well but with proper training they have certainly improved themselves over a period of time," said Portugal's leading goalscorer till Cristiano Ronaldo overtook him in March 2014.

The PSG great, who is also the club's leading goal-scorer and ambassador, said he was not tempted to return to the field and is content with his present job as the youth coach of Portugal.

"I am happy with my present job of coaching the youth teams of Portugal. I gave up competitive football six years ago and am not inclined towards making a return any-time soon," he said.
