Jack Wilshere “should not return to Arsenal” according to recent statements by Jamie Carragher. According to the ex-Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Carragher, this could be a step in the wrong direction for Wilshere who is currently on loan at Bournemouth.

After spending much of the past few season on the doctor’s table, the England international secured the move on Deadline Day as Arsene Wenger hopes that the English midfielder would get back to consistent performances and consistent fitness which would come out of more game time.

The former Arsenal midfielder has started eight of Bournemouth’s last nine Premier League games and played the entire 90 minutes against Liverpool on Sunday as they came back superbly to win the game 4-3.

Wilshere has been plagued by a number of injuries rather frequently, causing Arsene Wenger to loan him out. The once highly-touted youngster is now 24-years-old and needs more football according to Jamie Carragher.

While speaking on Sky Sports about the Wilshere situation Jamie Carragher said, “Jack Wilshere's at the stage where he just wants to play football. With the competition for places at Arsenal, he's probably not sure [about playing every week].”

The ex-England international went on to suggest that Wilshere should make a well thought about decision about his future because he will in all likelihood not get enough game time at Arsenal with the fierce competition for starting spots,

"He's got a massive decision to make. I saw what Arsene Wenger said about him signing a new deal but if I'm being honest, if I were Jack Wilshere, I wouldn't go back to Arsenal,” said Carragher. :I don't see how he fits in. He's playing in a No 10 position now and Mesut Ozil is better in that position than him so he won't play there.”

Wilshere at crossroads

Carragher also stated that Wilshere is at a crossroads in his career and he should choose a club that can offer him game time,

"Wilshere just goes back to square one where he's not sure whether he's playing, and at 24 [years old], forget about what club you're at or what you could win.”

"You want to play week in, week out, for 90 minutes, and show what you can do," Carragher added.

Jack Wilshere is another example of a highly touted English player not performing up to the country’s expectations and the midfielder must now resurrect his career if he is to start for the English national side again.

He is only 24-years-old at the moment and must look at performing consistently despite the status of his current or future club. Whether Arsenal renew his contract at the end of the season remains a mystery with the player’s current contract running out in the summer. However, Arsene Wenger has suggested that he has every intention of renewing the player’s contract when he does return to Arsenal in the summer.
