Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez has revealed that his year-long loan stay with Real Madrid was a “massively frustrating” affair. The Mexican striker was sent out on loan last season by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal who felt that ‘Chicharito’ was surplus to requirements at the Old Trafford.

At Real Madrid, the striker managed to make just 13 starts in the whole season and at the end of year, the European Champions decided not to make his deal permanent. Hernandez’s most important contribution as a Real Madrid player was his crucial goal against local rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Mexican struck a late winner which ensured the passage of Real Madrid into the semi-final of the tournament. The 27-year-old said that it was a moment of relief for him amidst a frustrating season in Spain. But the more prominent emotion that Hernandez had felt of last season was of frustration at not playing very often.

“The goal against Atletico was a relief because it was a difficult year with very few opportunities,” the striker was quoted as saying by Spanish sports daily AS. “It was a release. I had to warm the bench a lot. My time in Madrid was massively frustrating because I did not feel important,” he said.

Hernandez’s future is uncertain and it remains to be seen whether Van Gaal sees a future for the Mexican striker at Manchester United.
