Jorge Mendes: There will be no player in “next 500 years” like Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has boldly claimed that the Portuguese superstar would score 120 goals in a season at Barcelona.

Ronaldo signed for Real Madrid in 2009 for £80 million and Mendes was at the base of that deal as well as many other huge transfers across Europe.

In an interview with Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Mendes claimed that Barcelona are the best team in the world and, if Ronaldo played there, he would scored 120 goals in a season.

They are strange comments from Mendes considering Ronaldo’s club Real Madrid are direct rivals to Barcelona.

“If he played for Barcelona he’d score 120 goals a year. The best player in the world with the best team in the world”, he said.

Mendes underlined that Ronaldo’s “level of hard work, quality, ambition and determination are the only way that Real can get close to the level” of Barca.

He also said Ronaldo ‘carried the team on his back’ and ”It would be impossible with any other player. Ronaldo scores more than 50 goals per season and he plays on the wing. He carried Real to win the 2011-12 league title.”

Mendes also thinks it will be impossible to find a player like Ronaldo in the ‘next 500 years’.

“When Ronaldo’s career comes to an end, people will say that nobody else can even be compared to him”, he said.

In a separate interview, Ronaldo has said that Mendes is “like a father” for him. “He’s the most important person for me in the footballing world”, he said.
