Jose Mourinho has been charged with his misconduct by the FA for his behaviour and language used with match officials during Chelsea’s 1-2 defeat to West Ham, the BBC reported. The Portuguese and his assistant coach Silvino Louro were sent to the stands after a dispute with the match officials before the second half of the match.
The incident took place when the 52-year old went to speak with the referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time, shortly after Matic had been shown a second yellow card. While West Ham went on to win the game 2-1, both clubs are likely to be charged by the FA for their incapability of keeping their players under control.
All parties have until 6 pm on Thursday the 29 of October to reply.
Chelsea’s other possible punishments
The men from Stamford Bridge are also facing a £25,000 fine, for gathering 6 yellow cards to their players during the course of the game, a tally that triggers automatic punishment, often in the form of a fine.
Apart from Matic who was sent off for receiving two yellow cards, Cesar Azpilicueta, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, John Mikel Obi and Diego Costa were the other players to go in the books. They have also been asked by the footballing committee to give their observation on three disciplinary incidents seen on the day.
As neither the coach nor any member of his coaching staff attended the post-match news conference at the Upton Park, the Premier League have asked for the club to justify themselves. Depending on the reason the Premier League will decide on the action to be taken, but the normal sanction is a warning or a fine.
While the club have no media interactions lined up till Tuesday's League Cup match at Stoke City, it is to be seen if the controversial manager will turn up.
Mourinho has already received a £50,000 fine and was given a suspended one-match ban after claiming "referees are afraid to give decisions for Chelsea" earlier this month. While Mourinho’s current league record out the former Inter-Milan manager in a precarious position, former Premier League referee Mark Halsey felt there was no justification to the reaction.
"I've known him a long time and he wears his heart on his sleeve," Halsey said. "But sometimes you have to take a step back and think about what you are saying. When you are criticising the referee and his integrity then we can't do that.
"Sometimes it would be good to see Jose be honest and come out and apologise for what he says to referees."
Could be a 5-game touchline ban for Mourinho
The poor record that the current Chelsea manager has with the FA is going to do him no favours as he’s racking up charges against him this season. The Mirror reported that it could be a massive punishment this time, like a 5-game touchline ban.
The argument is predicated on previous incidents when Blackpool manager Paul Ince and Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies were levied with similar punitive measures. However, in both these cases, there was physical contact between the official and the managers, it is unclear what happened in this case, though it is a possible outcome in this case.
