Jurgen Klopp issues warning to Liverpool players ahead of January transfer window

Jurgen Klopp has been given the license to revamp his squad during the January transfer window

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a warning to his players with a five-week deadline to secure their futures at the club, according to Mirror. As the January transfer window draws nearer with each passing day, the German coach will be on the lookout for fresh new faces, if his players fail to meet his demands on the pitch.

The 48-year-old succeeded Brendan Rodgers at Anfield last month and he will get his first chance to dip in the transfer market during the busy winter period. Upon his arrival, he had been questioned during the press conferences about adding new players to the squad in the form of Marco Reus, Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan from his former club Borussia Dortmund.

The German coach replied by saying that he would be utilizing the players available in the current squad and had no intention of luring his former players to Merseyside. However, Klopp is now keeping an open mind to changes and has claimed the players themselves are aware that some tough decisions will have to be made sooner, rather than later.

The Liverpool boss has been shown the green light by board members to reshape the team and as we have seen it in the past, he earned recognition for his high-tempo, high-energy philosophy during his time with the Bundesliga outfit and he will probably consider bringing in players who can play that style.

“We will have the possibility to change some things in January and in the summer but at this moment we have made no decisions because we don’t have to make them yet,“ he said.

“The players know this. It is always the same that at one point in the season you have to make a decision about them. We are at a time when they can collect positive arguments and say: ‘okay, we want to work together’.”

“I don’t need to say this to them, they know it. In this moment we have made no decisions so I have time to judge. To make a final judgement on them I need more time. I know about the business of course.”

“We have time and we will see what is possible and what is not possible. We will see what’s necessary and what’s not necessary, that’s how we work.”

Klopp will definitely be on the lookout for a striker during the January transfer window as several of his first team strikers have been sidelined with injuries including Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge.

At the moment, the former Dortmund manager has the likes of Divock Origi and Christian Benteke as the only recognized strikers in the team and in recent games he has been deploying Roberto Firmino in that position due to the squad’s lack of depth.
