Jurgen Klopp is interested in becoming the Manchester United manager if his close friend Eckhard Krautzun is to be believed. The two worked together at Mainz before Klopp took charge of Borussia Dortmund.

The Manchester Evening News is reporting that the German who left Dortmund at the end of the season has previously expressed an interest in managing the Old Trafford outfit.

Klopp is a free agent at the moment and is one of the top managers in Europe after his achievements at Dortmund.

The German manager took over at Dortmund when they were struggling. And under Klopp, Dortmund became champions of Germany on two occasions and also guided them to the Champions League final in 2013, where they lost against Bayern Munich.

Klopp’s friend Karutzun says that he was very keen on taking charge at Manchester United one day.

"He once told me, that one day, when it does not fit with Dortmund any more, Manchester United would be his club,” he said.

“But at this moment the job is taken. Klopp would fit perfectly to an English club that is well lead and well organised. One which has a very good board of directors. A club with one person reigning, like Chelsea, would not be right for him,” Krautzun said.

Louis van Gaal has two more years left on his contract and he has indicated that the United job could be his last one as a manager. Any move to Manchester United may have to wait as Klopp announced after the German Cup final that he will be taking a sabbatical for a year.

The manager has been linked with Manchester City, Napoli and even Real Madrid. Thomas Tuchel took over the reins at Dortmund after Klopp left.
