Indian Super League side, Kerala Blasters, have retained defender Sandesh Jhingan for the second edition of the lucrative league. Jhingan picked up a pair of awards last year when he was voted as the Emerging player of the first ISL season and the AIFF Emerging footballer of the year.
“When KBFC gave me an offer, I had no second thoughts in my head and signed the contract with a big smile,” Jhingan was quoted on the Kerala Blasters’ official Twitter page.
After the first season of the ISL, Jhingan was loaned to Sporting Clube de Goa, but the club did not have a good campaign as they finished 4 points above the relegation zone and a massive 16 points behind Champions Mohun Bagan.
Following the conclusion of the I-League, Indian National team manager Stephen Constantine selected Jhingan as a part of his World Cup Qualifying squad. He played in both matches against Nepal as he established a brilliant partnership with Arnab Mondal. However, a shoulder injury meant he would miss out on the first two qualifiers against Oman and Guam.
In last season’s ISL, Jhingan played 14 matches for the Kerala side and was one of the most consistent figures in the league. Blasters, in their tweet, expressed their happiness in resigning the 21-year-old.
