Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne said that former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had been “unfair” during the Belgian’s time at Chelsea. De Bruyne added that he did not have any hard feelings towards Mourinho but he had reached a point where he just had to leave Chelsea as there was nothing he could do.

De Bruyne left the London club under allegations of not training hard enough and not being good enough for the team. When asked why the Belgian had been sold, Mourinho had stated, “If you have a player knocking on your door and crying every day he wants to leave, you have to make a decision.”

Kevin De Bruyne did speak about the allegations levelled against him, “There was talk that I didn't train too much, stories I couldn't defend myself against as the sessions were always behind closed doors.”

Chelsea won the Premier League title the season De Bruyne was sold. The club received £18 million for a player they had bought for £6.4 million. It seemed like a good piece of business back then as they received a huge sum of money for a player that did not play many games.

When informed of Kevin De Bruyne’s intention to leave the club, Mourinho called a meeting of the creative midfielders at the club. Wanting to prove that De Bruyne’s contributions were inferior to the others, the Portuguese manager even compared their statistics.

This was highly unfair according to the youngster who felt that he was being mistreated. He called out the coach saying,”Sorry, that's not logical. I have played less games than the others. How can you compare me to the others?”

De Bruyne claimed that after the allegations of him not training hard enough, he started training even harder, including on his days off. His situation, however, did not change and the attacking midfielder told Mourinho about his desire to leave the club.

Although the Belgian had not been playing regularly, Chelsea were not willing to let him leave. They were keen to loan De Bruyne out but he had had enough and wanted to leave the club.

The talented 24-year-old attacking midfielder joined Manchester City from German club Wolfsburg for £55 million this season. He has so far repaid the faith by scoring 6 goals and providing 9 assists in 21 league appearances for the club and has been one of their best players.
