Not one to rest on laurels

Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, is of the opinion that the six-point lead that the Blancos have over Barcelona at the moment doesn’t make much of a difference as there is still a long way to go before the league is concluded.

Speaking at a promotional event for a sportswear, the Frenchman expressed his happiness with the Blancos’ results of late, but has warned that being the winter champions doesn’t guarantee the League title.

"We're first and we are happy with the results we have been getting but there are a lot of games left to play and a lot left for us to do if we are to achieve what we've set out to do. A six-point lead at this stage doesn't mean anything, it doesn't mean we're going to win the league."

When asked about whether he could lead the Galacticos to become the first ever side to win the Champions League twice in a row, the Frenchman said that his side will give it their best in order to achieve success.

"We'll try and do it, that's our job. What we want to do is play football and the Champions League is an important objective; on Monday, we'll see who we are drawn against. There is a very long way to go to get to the final. The players have been doing superbly until now".

As Real Madrid prepare to go to Japan for their Club World Championship tournament, the legendary World Cup-winning former France midfielder stated that playing in Japan makes him reminisce the good memories. He also added the fact that Japan has so many Madridistas gives the Merengues more of an incentive to win the tournament.

"It brings back a lot of good memories for me. We won a lot of things in Japan and it's a country where Madrid has a lot of fans - it's also a country where we would love to make history by winning something important.

“We have the chance to do that in this Club World Cup but first we have a game on Saturday to play and we are going to try to win both of those matches for all of the people who are behind this great club."

Despite the inconsistent form of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid are currently leading the league table with 34 points from 14 games, 6 points clear their nearest rivals, Barcelona.
