Mavericks, Accenture and Tesco shine in the Legends Cup

The Bengaluru edition of the Legends Cup began with a bang as Mavericks Solutions, Cisco, Time along with both the TCS teams made their way into the quarter-finals of the Legends Cup. The remaining group winners will play for the remaining slots of the Legends Cup tomorrow.

The day started off with GE B facing off with Cisco, which the latter ended up winning with a comfortable margin of 3-0. The second match of the group was played between GE B and Ernest & Young as the former succumbed to their second loss with scoreboard showing a similar score of 3-0, which meant the match between Cisco and Ernest &Young would prove to be a head to head for the top spot in the table. The final match turned out to be a one-sided affair as Cisco ran out 4-1 winners to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Group B provided the shock of the day as one of the favorites Siemens blew their chance of making it to the Legends Cup as they were not able to muster a win in their two matches, losing 2-1 to Mindtree and just managing a goalless draw against TUV. In the final group match, Mindtree needing just a draw to top the group and have an opportunity to play in the Legends Cup and they did just that by playing out a draw against TUV.

In Group C, the group toppers were decided by just a goal as Accenture A and Tesco trashed Cleartrip by 13 and 12 goals respectively after earlier playing out a 1-1 draw between themselves. Deb was the star of the show for Accenture A as he alone scored an incredible 8 goals in the match against Cleartrip.

Group D turned out to be a close affair as well with both Groupon and Infosys Bangalore beating Grant Thornton by the respective scores of 3-1 and 4-1. In the final match to decide the table toppers, Groupon ran out winners with the help of a solitary goal.

TCS B proved to be too strong for their counterparts in group E as they comfortably established their dominance by winning both their matches scoring 8 goals and conceding just one goal, against JP Morgan, in their two matches. In the other group game, SAP beat JP Morgan 6-0, but their 3-0 loss to TCS B proved to be the final nail in the coffin as far as their chances of qualifying for the Legends Cup was concerned.

Group F proved to be a close encounter as JSW BFC played out a 1-1 draw against Wipro. JSW then went on to beat GE A in a closely fought encounter by a score of 4-3 which meant that Wipro had to win by a margin of more than two goals to guarantee top spot. The latter did not disappoint as they thrashed GE A by a score of 5-1.

Time INC confirmed themselves as group toppers in Group G beating EMC 2-0 and Goldman Sachs 4-1 to keep their London dreams alive. The consolation match between Goldman Sachs and EMC proved to be a real nail-biter as Goldman Sachs ended up with a 4-3 win.

Mavericks Solutions confirmed their challenge as one of the favorites for the trophy as they waltzed their way past their opponents scoring goals for fun hammering in an astonishing 12 goals in two matches against ANZ Tech and MU Sigma in Group H. The consolation match between the two ended in a 7-0 win for the latter.

In group I, TCS A established their dominance over Oracle and Amazon by beating them 5-0 and 3-1 respectively and booking a place in the quarter-finals of the competition. The match between Oracle and Amazon was a one-sided encounter as well, as Amazon ran out 2-0 winners.

Group J proved to be one of the closest groups in the tournament when both Infosys Mangalore and Accenture B beat Deloitte 3-0 in the first two games of the competition to make the final group game a shootout between the two teams for a place in the next round. The match was a closely fought one and it was just one goal that made the difference as Accenture B came up with the winning goal.

In Group K, ANZ Ops started their campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over HCL before the latter was beaten 3-1 by Dreamworks Tech. The final match saw a see-saw match that eventually ended with ANZ Ops winning by a score of 4-2.

The second day of the Legends Cup commences on the 20th of September with all the teams playing again in the category they will be placed in according to their ranks.
