Leo Messi, Luis Suarez , and Gerard Pique are amongst the first names on the Barcelona team sheet and not just the senior squad’s team sheet either. Their sons Thiago Messi, Benjamin Suarez, and Milan Pique just had their first training session at Barcelona’s Escola on 19 September September at Annexes Minniestadi fields.

Thiago Messi was the first one to arrive at the ground, twenty minutes ahead of the 5:00 PM schedule, accompanied by his dad, Lionel. He was joined soon after by Benjamin Suarez and Milan Pique who were brought to the arena by their parents.

The three dads were all reported to be present to watch the first training session their sons took part in, and they were welcomed in by Edgar Enrich, who gave the parents an introductory session on what to expect at the training session.

The children were also said to have enjoyed the training, with all of them greeting the different exercises and drills with great enthusiasm. Thiago and Milan are three years old, and Benjamin will be three on 27 September.

This event was the result of FC Barcelona’s new initiative, where they offered to the children of the employees of the club, aged between three to five years, the chance to enroll themselves in a new pilot program started by the club.

The purpose of this program is to incorporate Barca’s unique footballing DNA at an early age, as well as familiarising the children with the football. The club believes this will make the players more comfortable on the ball as and when they mature into older players.

Lionel Messi had last month stated that his son really doesn’t like football as of yet, but that didn’t stop little Thiago to try his hand out at training with his mates. Milan Pique, on the other hand, seems to have a love for football that few others have if his mother Shakira is to be believed.

She said “Right now, Milan is obsessed with football. He sleeps with the Barca jersey on, He sleeps with the football, and he doesn’t miss even one match. He knows every single team, including English teams. He wears the shirt of all the teams.”

With such a football mad friend to keep him company, the love of the game is sure to also rub off on young Thiago as well. Who knows, the kids may end up dominating world football, just like their dads did.
