After Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned the winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or award, Lionel Messi confessed that Ronaldo was the deserving winner.
Cristiano Ronaldo along with Lionel Messi and Frank Ribery was nominated for the prestigious Ballon D’OR award, which eventually went to Ronaldo. It was the second time he won the award, of which the first he won back in 2008. From 2009 to 2012, Messi won the award four times in a row.
Messi said after the award ceremony, “I want to congratulate Cristiano because he was the deserved winner.”
He was asked about what he felt of not winning the award this time, he said, “I have nothing to say about that.
“I think it was a good year for all the three of us so I have nothing to complain about and no need to make excuses.
“I don’t know if it would have been different without the injuries. It’s true I didn’t get right until the semi-finals of the Champions League and this year I got injured in the beginning of the season.
“But that has nothing to do with this. Cristiano merits the win.”
