Lionel Messi talks about his closest friend at Barcelona and family life

Lionel Messi talks about life and friends in the Barcelona dressing room

Lionel Messi recently spoke to FourFourTwo, and talked about his life in the Barcelona dressing room. The Argentine star recently scored his 400th goal for Barcelona, but claimed he is just like everyone else and gets along well with all the players.

He admitted that the entire squad doesn’t go out together very often, as they have to tend to their commitments outside football, with many, including Messi, having children.

When he was asked about who he got along with the most, he revealed that he is really close with Dani Alves. He said their friendship was fueled by the fact that they both played on the same flank during matches when Messi first broke into the squad.

“Everyone’s got their own style,” said Messi. “Everybody’s different. I think I’m just normal, jeans and T-shirt. We all get on very well in the dressing room. I’ve always been close with Dani Alves, since we shared the right wing together when I first broke into the Barcelona first team.

“We’ve spent many years together, both on and off the field. Day-to-day, we’ve got a very strong relationship, which is also of a great help on the field; it means we understand each other’s games very well.

Everyone has different obligations: Messi

Messi claimed that the squad try to do things together, but it is tough as they spend time with their family away from the pitch.

“As a squad, we try to do things socially. It varies, because everybody has their own time away from the pitch to spend with their family,” Messi continued.

“We all have different obligations, many of us have children who we pick up from school or go to bed early – anything to do with your children always takes time. When we can, we get together, but everyone has their own life.”

Messi’s goal against Valencia helped his team stay on top of La Liga and two points above rivals Real Madrid.

He has the chance of adding another perfect treble to his name this season with the Champions League, Copa del Rey, and La Liga title in sight.
