Liverpool have agreed a fee of £12million with La Liga side Sevilla for the transfer of Spanish international left-back Alberto Moreno.

The news was revealed by the English club themselves via Twitter and their official website.

The agreement brings an end to a transfer saga that has dragged on for the last couple of months. Moreno has been linked with the Reds (and a few other Premier League clubs as well) for some time now.

It was unique summer in which Manchester United, Chelsea as well as Liverpool were on the lookout for an upgrade to the left-back spot. And that’s when Moreno’s name came in time and again.

The diminutive Spaniard, who is touted as one of the most highly rated prospects in Spain, has spent his entire career with the Andalusian outfit.

Moreno played a pivotal role in Seville’s Europa League triumph last season. However, he could only watch from the stands yesterday as his team succumbed to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup after an agreement was reached with Liverpool regarding his transfer.

His impressive displays for his club didn’t escape the eyes of Spanish manager Vicente del Bosque as Moreno saw his name shortlisted in the 30-man provisional list for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The 22-year old is expected to provide an upgrade to Liverpool at the left-back spot. The Reds have struggled to get a fix on that spot. With Jose Enrique out injured for most parts of last season, Rodgers sought to play Daniel Agger, Jon Flannagan, Aly Cissokho (who was on loan from Valencia last season) and even Glen Johnson in that position.
