Report: Liverpool deny claims of Carlo Ancelotti replacing Brendan Rodgers

Carlo Ancelotti led his former side Real Madrid to La Decima in 2014

Liverpool have denied making any kind of approach for replacing current manager Brendan Rodgers with Carlo Ancelotti, The Guardian reports.

The reports have intensified this season that Brendan Rodgers’ job at Anfield is in jeopardy after the club’s poor start to the season and the veteran Italian coach is likely to succeed the Welshman. However, the club has quickly dismissed the stories emerging today and sources suggesting such a move would be out of character with the way John W Henry and co. have operated to date.

Ever since Rodgers took charge of the Reds back in 2012, it has been a rollercoaster ride for the Welshman who has suffered disappointing results including their humbling 6-1 defeat to Stoke City on the final day of Premier League 2014/15.

Despite their league title drought for the past two decades, Liverpool is still considered one of the elite clubs in England and Rodgers has been under enormous pressure to bring back his side to the top.

Losing out his assistant manager and close friend Colin Pascoe plus coach Mike Marsh in an enforced backroom shake-up has not helped his case who was given £80 million to revamp his Liverpool squad during the summer transfer window.

Having retained the backing of FSG and securing the services of Christian Benteke for £32.5 million and £29m for Roberto Firmino, both the summer signings have not made much impact at Anfield - who are still yet to find their feet. Much to everyone’s surprise, Brendan is still in search of his best XI and formation having switched from 4-3-3 to 3-4-1-2 in Sunday’ s draw against Norwich City.

Liverpool are in a poor run of form having not won in their last five matches which has now left them at 13th position in the league table. Brendan’s primary target this season is to secure one of the top four positions at the end of the season.

Many of the Anfield faithful are not impressed by Brendan’s incapability to lead the Liverpool team forward and as an act of protest against the Welshman, Liverpool fans has been urged to dress up as former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp in their next Premier league match against Aston Villa. A Twitter group of 122,000 followers have been urged to send a message to the Liverpool board, according to Daily Star.
