Liverpool pre-season: Exciting Aspas and the dazzling Coutinho

Iago Aspas – making the right moves

With 3 wins on the trot, Liverpool are getting their fitness levels up whilst earning solid results on foreign soil confidently. Despite the current Luis Suarez debacle, the Reds are looking fit and raring to go again for the upcoming season.

Turning Heads – Coutinho

One standout of pre-season thus far has been the Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho. Having already made an impact in the second half of the Premier League season, the Brazilian has been at it again in pre-season, putting in a couple of mesmerizing displays against the Asian and Australian sides that the Reds have faced on their tour.

His form will determine how well Liverpool do in this upcoming season. If he can hit top gear this year, he has the potential to hit the heights of the likes of David Silva and Luka Modric (in his time with Tottenham Hotspur, of course).

Clearly, one of the biggest positives (of many) of the pre-season, thus far.

Transfer Dealings – Calm is good?

The storm is settling after the 40 million pound (and one) bid, for Luis Suarez, from Arsenal FC. Luis Suarez coming out and saying he wants to talk to Arsene Wenger may not have been the piece of news we would have wanted to hear from the press, but it has come to be expected of the unpredictable Uruguayan. His moving to Arsenal makes very less sense because:

a) He wants to escape the British press, and,

b) Arsenal don’t represent much of an upgrade besides the lure of the Champions League.

If he wants a new and more lucrative contract, Liverpool are more than happy to throw it onto the table for him, but there is no reason for Suarez to leave this time around (unless Real Madrid are prepared to hurl that Gonzalo Higuain money our way rather than Tottenham’s).

Regarding transfers coming into the club, it has been quiet. No concrete rumours, but some pieces flying here and there on a potential move for Christian Atsu, as well as Valencia’s Aly Cissokho. Nothing really concrete, but presumably, the negotiations are going on behind the scenes, as they always are for Liverpool Football Club.

Taking the Oppourtunity – Iago Aspas

One man who has been taking his opportunity to show Brendan Rodgers what he is worth, is Iago Aspas. A summer signing for the Reds, Aspas has been at the right place at the right time on a few occasions this pre-season, managing to notch up a few goals of his own down in Asia and Australia. Whilst different in playing style to Luis Suarez, one hopes of seeing a Aspas-Suarez-Sturridge partnership strive up front for Liverpool this coming season.
