Midfielder Adam Lallana, who moved to Liverpool this summer from Southampton this summer has been ruled out for the opening weeks of the season owing to injury, according to reports.

The England international, has unfortunately injured his lateral collateral ligament during the club's pre-season tour in the United States.

On the brighter side and fortunately for both the Reds and Lallana, he will not require surgery. However, the injury means that the crafty midfielder could be out for up to six weeks, which would result in him missing Liverpool’s first three games of the new season.

The news comes as a blow to Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers, who will be looking to challenge for the title again this season, but without their former talismanic striker Luis Suarez.

The Reds came really close last season to securing their first ever Premier League title. However, only one win in their last three games saw the title slip away from their hands.

Lallana joined the long list of players on their way out of Southampton this summer when he completed a £25 million move to Anfield earlier this off-season.

The Kopites will now have to wait about a month longer to see what their heavy investment brings to the ranks at Anfield.

Lallana’s impressive performance last season for the south coast team earned him a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the season as well as a place in the England team for the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
