Report: Louis van Gaal to give debut to Manchester United teenager against West Ham

19-year-old Patrick McNair could be making his first team debut during Manchester United’s Premier League match against West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United manager Louis van Gaal is out of defensive options with all of his regular centrebacks sidelined. While Phil Jones was struggling with a hamstring injury and Jonny Evans with his ankle, Chris Smalling is also a doubt due to a leg problem. On the other hand, Tyler Blackett is suspended for the match after he was sent off last week during United’s 5-3 loss at Leicester.

McNair, who hails from Northern Ireland, had joined the team three years ago, but is yet to make a start for the first team.

A start for the centre back right from the start is somewhat improbable, however,he could feature as a substitute with Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo holding up the central defensive line along with Rafael and Luke Shaw as full-backs.

Is he good enough for United’s first team?
