Rumour: Louis van Gaal set to reject Tottenham and join Manchester United

Louis van Gaal

Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal is set to reject an offer from Totenham Hotspur and begin talks with Manchester United over the managerial vacancy at the club, after David Moyes was sacked this morning.

Moyes was relieved of his duties by the club after a disastrous season and there are already various reports regarding who will replace ‘The Chosen One’.

Jurgen Klopp has been heavily linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams, but he quashed speculation linking him with the club this morning.

Another option for the Manchester United hierarchy to consider is Dutchman Louis van Gaal, who will leave his post as Holland manager after this summer’s World Cup.

Van Gaal has been heavily linked with Tottenham in recent weeks. However, he is now set to prioritise the Manchester United job if ongoing talks are successful. According to the Mirror, Van Gaal is keen on taking the job at Old Trafford and has told the Spurs board he is no longer interested in the job at White Hart Lane.

Senior United officials are due to meet with the experienced boss at his Portuguese holiday home this week, in order to outline specific details regarding the hot-seat at Old Trafford. Van Gaal has a close relationship with Holland striker Robin van Persie and it is thought him joining the Red Devils could mean better utilisation of the striker, something Moyes failed to do.

Van Gaal has a vast amount of experience, having managed Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and having won numerous trophies, including the UEFA Champions League, Eredivisie, Bundesliga and UEFA Cup.

Manchester United have picked up just seven points from a possible 39 against the top seven sides.
