Manchester United boss was not at all impressed with Robert Huth pulling Marouane Fellaini’s hair during the Premier League game against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, terming it as something that is allowed only in “sex masochism”. Fellaini and Huth were involved in a minor altercation in the first half of the game that ended 1-1 with the Foxes denied the chance to be crowned champions in Manchester.
In the 22nd minute of the game, Huth was marking Fellaini and pulled on the Belgian’s afro. But at the same time, Fellaini was seen directing his elbow straight into Huth’s jaw before a second swipe at his face saw the German defender go down while Fellaini protested.
When questioned about the United midfielder’s elbow in a post-match interview and how it could have been a red card, Van Gaal immediately retaliated and explained why Fellaini reacted in that manner.
Pulling hair allowed only in ‘sex masochism’: Van Gaal
“No, I don’t think so,” the Dutch boss said. “When I grab your hair now, you will react also.
When the reporter said, “Possibly,” Van Gaal said, “Possibly? I do know for sure!”
“Because it’s not in the books that somebody has to grab with the hair and then pull it behind,” he explained while simultaneously showing the reporter the action of pulling his hair.”
It was then that Van Gaal probably came up with the quote of the season!
“And only in sex masochism; then it is allowed,” Van Gaal concluded.
When Van Gaal wanted his players to be ‘horny’
This is not the first time the Red Devils manager has come out with some outrageous quotes. Back in February, Van Gaal mentioned that he wanted his players to be ‘horny’ before a crucial Round of 32 Europa League clash against Midtjylland.
The Premier League side were shocked 2-1 in the first leg and he was looking for a response ahead of the second leg at Old Trafford.
When he was asked if his players needed to show the same desire as their opponents in the first leg, he said: “Desire – it is a great word. Also, 'hungry' and a lot of times I use the word 'horny' with my players.”
Juan Mata, sitting alongside him at the press conference, could only laugh along and nod his head in agreement, clearly embarrassed at the insinuation that he and his teammates were not ‘horny’ enough.
