Rumour : Luis Enrique meets FC barcelona director Andoni Zubizarreta to hold talks about taking over as manager

Sevilla FC v RC Celta de Vigo - La Liga

Luis Enrique

Former Barcelona striker Luis Enrique has reportedly met the club’s director of football Andoni Zubizarreta and two of his assistants on Monday to hold talks about taking over as coach of FC Barceloan at the end of the season.

Enrique, who won two La Liga titles with Barcelona in the 90s, is widely tipped to take over the reigns at Camp Nou at the end of the season and the meeting with Zubizarreta only strengthens the belief that the Spaniard, who scored over 200 times for the club, will be the man in charge next season.

The meeting is believed to have taken place at Enrique’s house in Gava, up the coast from Barcelona, which the former striker has had since his playing days at the Camp Nou.

Although Enrique has one year left on his contract at Celta, the club will have to be prepared to lose him if the Catalan club comes calling.

Enrique started his coaching career with Barcelona B in 2008 before managing AS Roma in 2011-12. The 43-year old is currently the manager of Spanish side Celta de Vigo and could endear himself to the Camp Nou faithful if he manages to beat Real Madrid and help Barcelona’s title ambitions in the process.

Although current Barcelona boss Tata Martino has been in charge for only a year, the club is expected to replace him after the season and Enrique looks like the front-runner at the moment to take over from the Argentine.
