After a fabulous display by Barcelona against Sporting Gijon, which the Catalans won 5-0, Luis Enrique took time to praise the contributions of Sergi Roberto, the right back of Barcelona.

Roberto has taken Dani Alves’ place at right back this season, and like his predecessor, was on hand to create goals.

The young Spaniard was responsible for creating two goals and was involved in the third as well. He started off the game well by linking up with Suarez That was the start of an impressive display by Roberto, who grew into the game.

His strong running down the flanks resulted in the red card of Alberto Lora, who dived in late to catch the Spanish wing back. The sending off opened the floodgates as Neymar and Turan helped themselves to goals. Roberto was instrumental in both the goals and delivered crosses which resulted in the goals.

Enrique praises the young full-back

The youngster who made his debut for Barcelona in 2010, began his career as a central midfielder but was converted to a full-back by Enrique last season, to replace the outgoing Alves.

The 24-year-old has used his La Masia football education to adapt to his new role in the team seamlessly. Speaking at the post-game news conference, Enrique was of the view that Roberto was one of the best right-backs and wasn’t surprised at the youngster's ability.

The Barcelona manager said, “I watch a lot of games and I don't see any better right-back than Roberto," as quoted from ESPNFC.

The youngster, speaking after the game, said that he was “delighted” with his current role and enjoying himself as he familiarises himself with the right back position. Roberto expressed his happiness and said that he was still learning attacking and defensive attributes required for the role.

The Catalans have been linked with their former youth player Hector Bellerin, who currently plays for Arsenal.

Barcelona close the gap after easy win

Barcelona ran out winners comfortably, but their manager was of the view that the scoreline was a bit flattering, as the Catalans took full advantage of their one man advantage to whip in three quick goals to make the score 5-0.

The weekend win left them a point behind leaders Real Madrid, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Las Palmas.

Barcelona next take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
