Former Manchester United forward Luis Nani has hit out at Louis Van Gaal’s treatment of his players. The Portuguese had a see-sawing career with the Red Devils after bursting onto the scene as an impressive youngster.

Nani produced moments of brilliance but failed to live up to his expectations at the club. But the winger has slammed his former manager on the way he was treated by him. Speaking to the Sunday Times he said, “He [Van Gaal] didn't use me a lot in pre-season. I was the player who had the least time in all the games and I was feeling, 'This coach doesn't count on me'.

"He and his assistant were shouting at players like we were kids, like 18-year-olds And I think, This is not the way to treat us because I am professional, I am training every day, I'm doing nothing wrong, I'm putting quality in the training.”

United have been struggling this season and are currently chasing a top four place. They sit four points behind their rivals Manchester City but have a game in hand, that game being against Tottenham Hotspur today.

Van Gaal’s tactics have been criticized heavily this season after his side have struggled for goals. Nani has played under both Sir Alex Ferguson and Van Gaal and sees the difference between the two sides.

"Now when you see Manchester, it's not Manchester. With all respect to the players who are there, the personality, the mentality is all different. When you see Manchester United go inside the pitch you see a new era.”

Nani spent eight seasons with Manchester United. He came in with a lot of promise but as the years went by it became evidently clear that his future was not at the club. He was loaned out to Sporting Lisbon, the club where it all began for him.

After a decent season with the club he left United for good joining Turkish giants Fenerbahce on a permanent deal last season where he has linked up with another former Red Devil Robin Van Persie.

Nani talked about how United have lost their big name players which has changed the atmosphere at the club. “Before you had big names, experienced players who represent so many years at the club. Now you see players who are maybe in their first year, their first time in the Premier League. It's all new.”
