Barcelona forward Luis Suarez went off at half-time in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich with a hamstring strain. A club statement later said he will undergo physiotherapy for the injury.

Though it is unclear how serious the injury is or how long it will keep the Uruguayan out of action, the club said the “evolution of his treatment” will determine his return.

The Barcelona official website published a statement that read: “Luis Suárez, with a hamstring strain in his left leg, will have physiotherapy and the progress of his recovery will determine when he can train again.”

Despite a slow start since his transfer from Liverpool, Suarez has scored 24 goals for the Catalan club. He is at the centre of an attacking trio along with Lionel Messi and Neymar who have scored over 100 goals between them this season.

Moreover, Barcelona are now facing a crunch period where they look to secure a treble of La Liga, Copa Del Rey, and the Champions League.

Suarez is also ineligible to compete for Uruguay’s Copa America campaign with his national side as he is currently serving a ban for a biting Italy’s Georgio Chiellini in a 2014 FIFA World Cup match.
