Goa India bags gold medal in football

India bagged the Gold medal in football at Lusofonia Games 2014, beating Mozambique 3-2.

Goa India scored twice in the first half and once in the second half to ensure gold medal.

Defender, Meldon D’Silva gave India the lead in the 3rd minute. Mozambique equalised through Dercio Matimbe in the 24th minute. Goa India’s star player Brandon Fernandes scored the second goal from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, allowing Goa India to go ahead yet again.

Goal’s tally increased in the 50th minute when Dempo SC product, Myron Fernandes netted a brilliant third goal. Luis scored Mozambique’s consolation goal in the 72nd minute.

The India colts showcased brilliant football in this tournament. Brandon Fernandes, the ASD, Cape Town trainee performed impressively leading the team from the front.

This is the third time that India met Mozambique in this edition of Lusofonia Games. India beat Mozambique twice, once in the first match of the group stage and in the final and were beaten 0-1 in the second match of the group stage.
