Fernando signs for Manchester City

FC Porto midfielder Fernando has been signed by EPL champions Manchester City for around £12m as announced by FC Porto on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

Despite the confirmation of the signing of the Brazilian, none of the clubs has disclosed the midfielder’s contract details.

Fernando who was earlier linked to the EPL Champions expressed his happiness in becoming a Manchester City player.

"I am so happy to finally be joining Manchester City," said Fernando. "I know there was talk of me possibly signing last January so I am delighted that the deal has now been done and that I am a City player”.

"I'm looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and helping City to defend the title. It is a very exciting time to be part of this football club and I cannot wait to play in the Premier League,” added the Brazilian.

Fernando who becomes the second signing of the season after Bacary Sagna to represent Manchester City joined FC Porto in 2007 and won four league titles including a Europa League in 2011.

TheBrazilian who has never represented his country in an international match will wear the number six jersey which has been vacated following the departure of England defender Joleon Lescott.
