It turned out to be far from ideal start to Louis van Gaal’s first Premier League campaign as his Manchester United side succumbed to a 2-1 loss at home to Swansea. The Dutchman’s first league outing at Old Trafford was primarily ruined by some sloppy defending and lack of purpose going forward.
Swansea on the other hand led by Gary Monk, did take their chances on either side of half-time as goals from Ki Sung-Yueng and Gylfi Sigurdsson guaranteed all three points for the Welsh outfit.
Rooney did get one goal back for the home side straight after the half-time break. However, the United midfielders did little to create anything significant going forward, leaving their new captain frustrated throughout the game.
