Rumour: Manchester United will try to sign Ander Herrera again

CM - Ander Herrera (Athletic Bilbao)

Manchester United could be set to return to the scene of last summer’s humiliation as they plot their transfer targets for next season, with Ander Herrera having emerged as a target once again for manager David Moyes, according to the Daily Mail.

United were heavily linked with a move for the Athletic Bilbao midfielder last summer and again in January, and had reportedly been close to a £32million deal in August before it emerged that the United delegation sent to the Basque country were complete imposters.

Despite this heavy set-back to their reputation with Athletic, they are prepared to return once again in order to add midfielders to a side that has often flattered to deceive this season, with Herrera’s combative qualities continuing to impress Moyes.

With other targets such as Toni Kroos looking set to snub a move to Old Trafford due to the lack of Champions League football on offer next season with United sitting in seventh in the table, the Red Devils have turned their attentions back to Herrera to bolster a midfield in serious need of a shake-up, especially with Ryan Giggs expected to retire from the game in the summer.

Herrera is considered a serious target, while Marco Reus and Luke Shaw are also believed to be at the top of Moyes’ list as he looks to reimpose United as a force in English football after a disappointing debut season in charge.

Ander Herrera has won 62 tackles in La Primera for Athletic Bilbao this season, more than any Manchester United played has achieved.
