Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are to follow Nemanja Vidic out of the Manchester United exit door as part of a major shake-up at Old Trafford over the summer, the Daily Mail report.

Vidic revealed that he intends to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season and it looks like Ferdinand and Evra will follow his lead to provide something of a clear out at the end of the season.

Evra is keen to return for family reasons as he enters the final few years of his career and United chasing a variety of left-backs already, while Ferdinand has managed just seven league appearances all season due to injury problems, with some speculating that the 35-year-old will hang up his boots at the end of the season.

And manager David Moyes seemed unfazed by reports that they would leave at the end of the summer, instead focusing on the young crop of defenders he already has at his disposal.

“Vidic feels it’s the right time and we feel it’s the right time to move on, but with two of them (Ferdinand & Evra) it’s still hypothetical.

“We’ve got Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, three really good centre halves. They’ll be the future of this club, the ones we look to who can be here for the next five or six years.”

Inter Milan are favourites to sign Vidic at the end of the season, while Patrice Evra has been linked with a move to Monaco.

Patrice Evra has created 28 chances for Manchester United this season, making him United’s second most creative player. Only Wayne Rooney (42) has created more.
