Rumour: Manchester United in talks to sign Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez for £20m

Alexis Sanchez

Manchester United are in talks to sign Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for £20 million, according to the Daily Star.

Sanchez, who scored 21 goals last season, has been linked with a move from Barcelona as the Catalans look to overhaul their first-team. Liverpool were thought to be chasing his signature, and were believed to be in pole position to sign the Chilean forward, but reports now claim that Man United are in talks.

The forward has apparently been told he can leave the club by new manager Luis Enrique, who used to captain Barcelona, and Liverpool have apparently already submitted a bid.

Juventus made an £18 million offer for Sanchez last week but it was rejected, meaning Man United are looking into submitting a £20m offer for the Chilean star.

Despite both Liverpool and Juventus able to offer guaranteed Champions League football for Sanchez, United have apparently moved ahead in the race to sign him.

Louis van Gaal, who will take over at Old Trafford following the World Cup, is looking at a major overhaul of the first-team squad at Man Utd after they finished seventh last season with ageing and out of form players.

He has been linked with Toni Kroos, Cesc Fabregas, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Marco Reus, and now Alexis Sanchez is thought to be high up on his list of targets.Only Lionel Messi (28) scored more goals than Sanchez (19) for Barcelona in La Liga last season.
