Manchester United store mistake helps fans buy 2014/15 kit for cheap

The official Manchester United store where the kit was available on discount

Manchester United faced a lot of embarrassment on Thursday, following the sale of their new home kit for less than half price on the website.

All the fans who visited the Manchester United online store on Thursday were ecstatic as they saw the jersery on sale for just £22. Kitbag.com, the official store operators for Manchester United, made the blunder when they were offloading old stock, when by mistake, they put the new kit on sale for less than half its price.

The Nike jersey was on sale for a few hours, during which time many elated fans placed their orders, before the error was spotted and taken off the website.

With football jersey prices increasing like never before (the actual price of the kit is ~ £52), it was no surprise that the United fans made the most of the sale.

Quotes on the entire issue

Initial quotes from Kitbag.com indicated that they might not honour the erroneous discount as they said, “At this time, we are waiting for the club to respond as to whether we can honour the orders already placed. Orders can be cancelled at our discretion, but due to the high volume, confirmation from the club is necessary.”

However, later in the day, it seemed that the club would uphold the discount as United Direct, the club’s official communication channel were quoted as saying, “United Direct, the Club’s Official Online Megastore, which is run by our e-commerce partner Kitbag, sent out communications which contained details of an erroneous discount code to our fans around the globe - this offer has now ended. United Direct will honour all consumer orders placed using this discount code, an approach which is fully endorsed by the Club.”
